“As the ambassador, I’m selling Sweden. The responsible and honest alternative. And I’m willing to lie about anything to make them understand that.”
The Premise
The Swedish embassy in Mexico City. Sweden in miniature, dealing with everything from secret diplomatic rendezvous to assisting Swedish tourists in trouble.
It’s also the workplace of a driven but dysfunctional
staff under the leadership of ambassador
Rolf Westander. Together they’re
doing their best to promote a positive image
of Sweden, even if Rolf’s main interest is to
promote the image of himself as the important
person he believes he is.
When Sweden is one of the countries competing
for a major order from the Mexican
government regarding fighter jets, the embassy
becomes an important player in getting
the deal done. Something that would
not only mean job opportunities for Sweden,
for Rolf a success would mean he would be
one step closer to achieve his goal; being the Swedish ambassador in the world’s political capital - Washington D.C. Nothing must go wrong. Something that proves to be impossible when huge egos, personal conflicts and international politics collide.
Tone:
A modern workplace comedy with fast and clever dialogue and a lot of laughs. A show that dares to challenge the genre, making it unpredictable and innovative. Characters in a setting that feels real, but is yet a much funnier version of reality. This is Parks and Recreation with an international flair. It’s Veep with a passport.
USP:
The Ambassador takes place in an environment we haven’t seen before and is set in a world we know nothing of, even though we sense it’s both meaningful and glamorous. Still, it’s a workplace with regular people with regular flaws. People that sometimes make decisions based on their own personal needs. The difference in this case; those decisions might have a direct impact on Sweden’s international relations.
Target Audience:
We see our main audience being between 30 and 50. With all the different layers to the show, it will work well with those who just want a funny comedy in a workplace environment, but there’s also plenty of good stuff for those who consider themselves being in the loop of current affairs.
Visually:
This is a fast-paced show with people constantly on the move, but it still looks stylish. It’s the authority of House of Cards meeting the chaos of the American version of The Office.
